Do you go from action to action without any real satisfaction?
If so, perhaps what you are missing is marking the momentous.
For me, this week is full of the momentous: my 30th birthday, our friends’ wedding, and the launch of this new website.
These are landmark moments and the metaphor I have is of being at the pinnacle of a hill. We are still for a moment, warm from activity, resting before what’s next. From this vantage point, we are able to look backwards with pride at the cumulation of all that we’ve been and done, and look forwards with eager anticipation at where we are going. This is time for both inner recognition (the retreat) and outer celebration (the party) – both of which are so important.
With clients, my job is often to say: “Stop…. Stay here on this hill… Don’t run on just yet“. Recently, they have got a new job, been accepted on to a university course, launched a first workshop, recorded the first songs of an album. It is sometimes a very new experience for us to bask in the momentous. Are we unused to it because we find it hard to believe we are worthy of that attention, from others or even ourselves?
By marking the momentous, we announce that here is something important enough to be given its due time and space. We are saying “This is significant” and, with that, “I am significant”.
The world needs your passion, so…
1) Inquiry: How do you mark a significant event or occurrence?
2) Using either an existing landmark point or creating one, experiment and stretch beyond your normal limits with either the retreat aspect, the celebration aspect, or both. Stop for the moment – for the momentous – and give the event and yourself the due time and space.
3) Use the comments facility of this blog to celebrate your momentous – I’d love to know what you see from your hill….
4) Finally, share with me in my momentous by letting me know what you think of this new site and also spreading the word to others who you feel would benefit from my approach.
