Creating Safety Toolkit
21-days to help you find security in a world of uncertainty so that you can go, and stay, self-employed
So, you were drawn to self-employment as a way of following your passion and doing what you love in your own way.
However, you’ve swiftly realised that it’s not an easy path. The jabbering inner critic sneers “Who do you think you are?” and assures you that you’ll never be good enough. Your heart sinks when you don’t know how you’ll pay your bills or how you’ll fill your client schedule.
You’re not the type of person who enjoys taking risks but if you could take away this crippling insecurity, self-employment seems so appealing. Doing what you love, no boss breathing down your neck, no early mornings and rush-hour commute.
But security does matter to you. Can you ever find that in self-employment or will you have to stay scared forever?
Some options
You could commit everything you have to making it work financially. If only you could create a water-tight level of success, if only you could be fully booked with a waiting list and a big buffer of savings in the bank, then that’ll be okay, you tell yourself.
But deep down, you know that nobody has guaranteed, eternal success. Ellen De Generes was enjoying a successful TV career, came out as gay and found her sitcom was cancelled and the phone didn’t ring for three years. When Take That fell from grace, Gary Barlow’s highly anticipated solo career nose-dived.
Yes, you can work harder and learn better business strategies but no matter how huge and shiny your success, it can’t insure you against downturns, dips and other factors outside your control.
So – what to do? When you’re sick and tired of self-employment feeling so scary month to month, it can feel like the only option is to have a regular 9-5 job. It won’t fulfill you but at least that would feel financially secure, right?
But deep down you know that no job is 100% secure either – plus you can’t ignore that deep sense that you’re here on this planet to do something else.
Between a rock and a hard place
If you can’t create safety for yourself by gaining business success and you can’t create safety by getting a job, then how can you find safety? Is there no way to find security in this uncertain world?
The key is to know that ours is an uncertain world and that results and outcomes are often out of your control. The only path, therefore, is to create safety that is not dependent on circumstances and to find a mind state that is unperturbed by the wins and the losses.
How to do this?
The only way to feel permanently secure is to plug in to that which is secure. The ground beneath you. Your breath. Your heart.
These are not fickle. They will not disappear. They can be relied upon in a way that clients and money and the global economy cannot.
By plugging in to these, you are more able to move forward, take action and attract the clients and money that you seek. But the safety has to come first.
Plug in every day
The key is to create safety first – before the whirlwind of your daily action list, emails, social media, phone calls and client sessions kick in. You can start your day with a mental shower, washing away yesterday’s fears. Clean your mind and the rest will follow, as George Michael (nearly) said.
Okay, that’s all well and good, you say, but even with the best intentions, you’ll forget. You’ll get caught up with the fear monsters and find it hard to reach back to safe shores.
So: be reminded
Imagine that you received a little note three times a week, reminding you of the unconditional safety that can and should be your daily foundation and offering you practical suggestions for how to strengthen that connection.
Imagine that you also received a short guided visualisation – soothing yet firm, relaxing yet inspiring you to boldness. You would listen to this at the start of each day to set yourself up the way you mean to go on.
And imagine that these notes and the visualisation related specifically to your journey of self-employment. Rather than being some plinky plonky waterfall that you listen to on your meditation cushion and then forget about when you sit down with your accounts, imagine that they offered a way of bringing safety directly into your home office.
Let me remind you
I would love to send you these notes and these visualisations. Why? Because safety has been the quality I have most craved in my own journey of self-employment.
With the pressure of having to earn my own income and attract my own clients, I have found myself on the floor in tears, wondering why it all has to be so damn hard. I have curled up in bed and wished the scary world would go away. I have phoned my partner at work and whispered: “I don’t feel safe”. I have checked emails on my phone first thing in the morning, trying to find safety in PayPal notifications.
Whenever I haven’t felt safe, I have felt unable to make forward movement. I have procrastinated and distracted myself with Facebook. I have missed out on connecting with new clients and I’ve blocked money that has wanted to flow in.
I’m no stranger to blue moods, down moods and dark moods. From first-hand experience, as well as that of my clients, friends and family, I know only too well the struggle to feel okay in an uncertain, confusing and seemingly cold world.
I also know what helps – and it hasn’t been the number of clients or the level of income. Regardless of whether I’ve been scraping by or have had a full client schedule and thousands of pounds flowing in each month, what’s helped me to feel safe is that which is timeless and constant. The earth. My breath. And love.
It’s a different kind of security, one that can’t be manufactured and can’t be taken away, and because it’s different, we need to find it in a different place.
Let’s create safety for you
Let’s give you 21 days of being reminded of what is truly secure. Let’s move you away from nagging anxiety and plug you in to unshakeable security.
Let’s give you the Creating Safety Toolkit.
Each week, for three weeks, you’ll receive:
- 1 x audio so you can close your eyes and be guided into a deep feeling of safety. Each audio runs for under ten minutes (because I know you’re busy) and you can either listen online or download the track.
- 1 x PDF so you can print the focus of the week and stick one A4 sheet on your wall or call it up on your desktop first thing.
* 3 x loving reminder emails, offering shifts of perspective and simple practical steps to deepen your feeling of security.
All these elements are designed to plug you back in, over and over again, to what is truly secure in this world so that you have a rock-solid foundation for everything else.
You don’t have to show up on the phone or online. Everything comes to you, to your inbox. This Toolkit doesn’t rely on you having to remember anything. You just get to receive.
(Please note: This is not a “how to start a business” programme. For that, please check out Turn Your Passion To Profit.)

Thanks so much for the Creating Safety Toolkit. The ‘gravity’ part especially was so powerful for me. I finished weeks ago and I still have the gravity notes stuck up on my wall. Let’s face it, if you’re going to be a kick ass business woman, you need to be grounded! Some of my own personal, long established meditations have changed as a result of this and I feel more comfortable in them now. Put simply, I feel more present in this realm without having to put the effort in that I used to. For me, this is hugely transformative. Thank you.
