It’s no fun being stuck on the starting blocks.
You’ve found something you’re passionate about, which you love doing and which also helps people. You’ve done the training, you’ve got the qualifications and you’re yearning to get out there and make a difference.
But when it comes to the business side and actually making enough money to pay your bills? No-one taught you that bit.
Too much
While you’re raring to go, it feels like your wings have been clipped before you’ve even taken the first step. Marketing? Sales? Social media? Niche? Website? Networking? The whole business thing can feel daunting at best, terrifying at worst. It can paralyze you. It can feel like too huge a mountain to climb and that it’d be safer not to do it.
Headless chicken
You maybe get a burst of energy, some inspiration to get going. You subscribe to business blogs, search on Google, suck up the wisdom on online forums, go to an event or two and your brain receives a huge download of information.
But that just tends to make you feel even more overwhelmed. There’s even more to do than you thought! You feel foggy, fuzzy, lacking in clarity.
Surely it should be easy?
You’ve learnt the tools you need to make people’s lives easier, take their pain away, get them healthier, less stressed, more confident. Surely they should be able to smell your wonderful shiny new skills and come running? Surely clients should just be turning up and money should just be flowing in?
The good news? You’re normal
Starting your own business is a big task. You’re not meant to just naturally know how to do it. There are generally a few elements missing for people who choose to go self-employed doing what they love. See if any of these are true for you (they might explain why things have been feeling hard).
1. Nuts-and-bolts business know-how
While there’s a huge amount of start-up information out there, a lot of it isn’t relevant to the one-person passion-led business. It tells you how to create a 20-page business plan and get a bank loan, which you’ll probably never need to do. It tells you to go to networking breakfasts that leave you cold. It advises you to use sleazy techniques for how to ‘close’ clients and get rich quick. (And while you do want to make money, that’s not your primary motivation for going self-employed. You want to help more people and make enough money so that you can keep doing that and enjoy a full life.)
Imagine if you had a step-by-step structure for defining, organizing and communicating your work in an authentic way, in line with your values. Imagine that someone else had walked a similar path to you and could give you the heads up about what’s effective and what’s distracting, what’s useful and what’s draining.
You could then trust that you were working smart, taking action which leads to results. The money panic could fade away, replaced by the deep satisfaction of helping lots more people and generating an income that you feel proud of.

2. Support & Accountability
It’s all well and good knowing what to do but if you have no-one there to cheer you on, it can be a lonely journey. When you work solo and have no external deadlines, it can be challenging to progress and you might find yourself letting important actions slide.

People who do work similar to yours, with similar motivations, who understand what you’re up to in the world and who encourage you every step along the way – those times when it sucks and those times when it goes really well. 3. Strategies For Overcoming Obstacles

Hi, I’m Corrina Gordon-Barnes and I love supporting people in generating a healthy income doing work that they love. I’ve been enjoying self-employment since 2004 and have worked with over 100 one-to-one coaching clients and hundreds more workshop and programme participants on finding and following their passion and translating that into financially viable self-employment. I’ve seen every intricacy along the journey: the highs, the lows, the hot spots, the stuck points, the joys and the tribulations.
I’m a Certified Professional Coactive Coach (CPCC) and previously a teacher (trained at Cambridge University) so I know how to help people learn deeply, effectively and enjoyably. What to expect
It’s 1pm on a Monday afternoon in January… You’ve just dialled in to a teleconference line where you’ll hear me welcome you and the other people who’ll be your ‘buddies’ for the 6 month journey ahead. There’s a buzz of anticipation as you discover more about each individual’s area of passion and can imagine what a difference it will make in the world as you each become clear and confident on the business side. You can spot straight away that you’ll be forces to be reckoned with!
You’re excited about having two of these 90 minute group calls per month (giving you 12 group calls in total) as you know you’ll be receiving solid, step-by-step business guidance that will hold you in purposeful action. You’ll be able to get those niggling questions answered and hear and share insights with these other practitioners and learn from their experiences.
The first class is called ‘Connection’ and is where we establish ourselves as a group, get used to each other’s voices, and find ways of implementing a daily Connection Practice that will form your rock-solid foundation for the next six months (and beyond).
As we progress through the programme, you’ll be identifying your ‘Love Love Money Tribe’ (in other words, your ideal clients), researching the needs of your Tribe, and packaging and pricing what you do as a solution so that prospective clients love to say “yes” to working with you. (Classes 2 – 4).
You’ll discover how to write and speak an authentic, heart-centred marketing message and find the most effective, enjoyable methods for communicating this with your ideal clients. (Classes 5 & 6).
In Class 7, you’ll make it super-easy for strangers to become paying clients, which will lead on to Class 8 where you’ll address your relationship with money and what really happens in the sales conversation. In Class 9, we’re moving into building momentum: how to gather effective testimonials and encourage word-of-mouth referrals.
In Classes 10 and 11 we get down and dirty with self-sabotage, finding strategies for overcoming procrastination and fear of failure/success/visibility/change (and so on!) You’ll also discover some excellent resources for maximising your time and energy so that you’re not spending your entire life staring at a computer screen, surrounded by piles of paper.
We then finish off with ‘Celebration and Review’ in Class 12 and we walk our talk by enjoying a group celebration lunch together in London. (If you can’t make it to London, you can join us via video Skype – like Mandy did, a previous participant who called in from Australia!)

- All teleclasses are recorded for review – and as back-up if you can’t make a live call – giving you a life-long business-building audio library.
- You’ll be given structured assignments to complete between classes so you can implement what you’ve learnt and move forward into action.
- One-to-one peer support: Every other week (i.e. the week between group calls) you’re matched with a fellow participant from the programme who is also committed to turning her passion to profit and who is there to help you do the same. You’ll enjoy 12 of these structured ‘buddy time’ sessions and can always opt in for more if you’d like.
- Bonus: 2 x 30-minute Clarity Sessions 1-1 with me (usually £150) to get you unstuck

People join this programme from literally all over the world. Previous participants have phoned in from across the UK (including Surrey, Durham, Cambridge, the Orkney Islands, Portsmouth, Norwich, Glasgow, Essex, the West Midlands, Brighton, Berkshire, London and Bath) as well as from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan and Australia.
We’ve had practitioners in their early 20s, those in their 60s, and all ages in between. Their passion has been for Reiki, foot health, coaching, tantra, holistic beauty, personal training, osteopathy, translation, design, architecture, herbs, naturopathy, artisan bread, copy-editing, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), crystal healing, craniosacral therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), story-telling for abuse survivors, nutrition and Pilates.
You can expect to meet other inspirational, interesting, insightful practitioners – as well as being part of a growing community of past and future Passion To Profit-ers.
“I can’t make all those dates – does that mean I can’t join?”
If you can’t make any of the live teleclasses, it’s not a problem as all the classes are recorded. You’ll receive these recordings straight to your inbox very shortly after the live class and even if you can make the classes, you’ll have the recordings as reference.
“Will it take up all my time? I’m already doing a lot!”
To enjoy a good level of engagement with this programme, you’ll want to allocate two hours per week. One week this will be for attending the group teleclass (and preparing); the following week this will be for your “buddy time” session (and preparing).
It’s pretty much the same time commitment as watching one movie per week. Do you have time to watch a movie? Then you have time.
You’ll obviously be spending several more hours per week actually taking the business steps – whether that’s honing a definition of your niche, compiling your research questionnaire or writing promotional copy but these are the activities you’d need to be doing anyway. What’s different is that with the guidance of the programme you’ll know what to focus on to work efficiently.
“I’ve not participated in a teleprogramme before – will I be at a disadvantage?”
Definitely not. I’ll explain teleclass etiquette in advance and you’ll quickly get the hang of how it works.
“It’s quite an investment. Can I get the same support in a cheaper form?”
One-to-one clients work with me for a minimum of six months which is priced at £250 per calendar month. Thanks to its group format, this programme is more affordable plus you get the bonus feature of a group of like-minded allies to support you and give you creative ideas and suggestions.
