209radio on 105FM: Feel Good Friday with Matt & Nick , June 2009, 10 minutes.
Are you feeling stuck, fearful of taking the first step?
I’m interviewed by Matt and Nick about how to get in touch with our passion and drop the excuses which which keep us stuck. We also discuss the power of writing – both as a tool for self-expression and also as a way of getting wisdom that we want to hear out into the world.
Sound-bite: “We often are very addicted to our stories: ‘All of these things have happened to me which mean I can’t move forward’. We all carry these stories with us, we keep telling ourselves over and over why we can’t do something. They’re excuses which help us feel safe because they’re familiar but actually they keep us stuck.”
BlogTalkRadio: Garden of the Soul with Lynn Serafinn, June 2009. 23 minutes.
Do you care passionately about the environment and your community? Unsure of what your role is in it all?
I’m interviewed by Lynn about the significance of the individual in these times and why it is so important that we each get bold enough to offer our unique gifts and talents.
Sound bite: “It’s a selfless act to offer yourself for the benefit of your community. Putting your passion into action involves taking risks and is scary but we need to do that because right now, more than ever, we need all these solutions brought forward. Life is meant to be about interconnected community, fun and fulfillment; if we’re making anything more important than happiness then we’ve forgotten the point of life.”
209radio on 105FM: Breakfast Show with Brian O’Reilly, June 2009, 15 minutes.
When you’re frustrated in your current work, what do you do? And when we’re told we’re in a recession, then what pathways are there forward?
I’m interviewed by Brian about what coaching is, who I work with, why people come for coaching and how the recession figures in all this.
Sound-bite: “We’re on the Titanic. Rather than just rearranging the furniture, it’s time to get off the ship. Our economic system hasn’t been working; we need a different system where we’re doing work that we love. It’s about remembering what our priorities are in life – being fulfilled, having meaningful relationships, contributing to our community”.
209radio on 105FM: Breakfast Show with Brian O’Reilly, November 2009, 15 minutes.
The Transition Town movement is about harnessing the collective genius of a community. Find out what’s happening in Cambridge and how you can get involved.
Sound-bite: “With Transition, we’re looking at: What if we responded to this global crisis with optimism and creative genius? It’s about starting in our community, having fun with it and asking: What skills can I learn from this? Personally, my quality of life is better as a result of engaging.”
209radio on 105FM: Breakfast Show with Matt & Nick, September 2009, 12 minutes.
I’m interviewed, along with marine biologist Mark Spalding, about our involvement with the Global Climate Wake-Up Call, a ‘flashmob’ action.
Sound-bite: “We’re constantly getting fed this myth that we need to change our light bulbs. Yes, of course that’s important at a domestic level, but it’s a fundamental systemic change that is needed. It’s about us looking at our economy and asking: Are we using our resources effectively? Are we translating our resources into well-being for our people? If we’re not doing that, we’ve gone wrong somewhere along the line.
I’m involved with the Transition Town movement which is about creating an exciting, thriving local community which is low-carbon and also can deal with the challenges ahead. Rob Hopkins, the founder of this movement, asks: What if environmental activism were more like a party than a protest march? On Monday, that’s what it felt like – a real celebration, a coming together, a building of community”.
